Not all of you may know who Seth Killian is, but for millions of people, he has been the face of Capcom USA for the past six years. As Community manager and “Special Adviser” at the company, he had a hand in some of Capcom’s greatest community events and promotional schemes, from Mega Man 9 NES cart sales to national Fight Club events to teasing the existence of “the Mega Man 9 secret” to adorning our world in Street Figther IV snuggies. He was also instrumental in the development and publishing of Street Fighter x Tekken, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and Street Fighter IV. Capcom even named the last boss of Street Fighter IV after him. Quite an honor, one that I feel that fully he deserved.
The guy has a PhD in philosophy. There are a million different jobs he could have chosen, most of which probably wouldn’t have involved having Mega Man fans make up stories about punching him in the face. Through it all, his passion for the fighting game community, and for Capcom games in general, worked to make Capcom a better developer/publisher. Whoever is replacing him has some tough shoes to fill.
There’s not clear word on why Seth is leaving Capcom, though he is hinting at future projects- “I have chosen a new path which will let me embrace a new dream, but to everyone that ever believed in this dream we shared together, let me say this final thanks. I will leave as I began–a Capcom fan for life, looking forward to all the great games still to come.” You can check out his full goodbye message here.
It’s the end of an era for Capcom.
