I haven’t heard about Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator in ages. The Western styled JRPG came out at a time where I was forced to do silly old high school exams, and everything else already looked really fancy in 3D thanks to the Quake II engine, or started to look amazing with Quake III Arena doing the rounds in demo form.

But once in a while you see a mention of Septerra Core somewhere on the Internet. A lot of reviews bitched about the archaic graphics when it was released, which is a non-issue by now, and how it was just not as good as the console RPGs on the market.

Since we had to do with ports of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII for our fix of this kind of RPG on the PC, I can see why it has its fans despite a very mixed critical reception. If you’re willing to see for yourself what the fuss was about — and have around 100 hours to spare — it’s $2.59 today at Good Old Games.
