Shenmue 1 + 2 were just re-released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and Shenmue 3 is slated for an August 2019 release on PC and PS4. You might notice that the Switch is completely out of the equation, but according to Sega localization team members Eigo Kasahara and Hiroji Noguchi, that may change.

Speaking to 4Gamer, Noguchi stated, “The fans have really shown their love for Shenmue – and for that, I really am grateful. Personally, I think it’d be great if you could play Shenmue on the Switch anywhere.” Kasahara qualified that by saying, “Whether or not we can do something like that in reality, we’re taking the fan’s opinions into consideration. Following up on that might take some time, but it’s definitely something I want to consider.”

As dated as they are, the original Shenmue duo is pretty timeless for a certain crowd. If the first two make it onto Switch, it’s entirely possible that the Shenmue 3 team could endeavor to complete the trilogy on the system.
