SEGA announces artists on Iron Man 2 game soundtrack

If I walked past those guys on the street, neither of us would know who the other is. But that’s just because I’m woefully out of the loop when it comes to metal music. That, according to SEGA, is Lamb of God. They’re contributing an original song written specifically for the Iron Man 2 game soundtrack.

Other bands which will be appearing on the soundtrack include Meshuggah and STEMM. I’ve heard of Meshuggah, mostly on the t-shirts of large and unhappy-looking post-adolescents. It’s not my thing, but I know it’s the thing of a lot of people, so let it be known that if you like metal, the music in Iron Man 2 will be pleasing to your ears.

A more complete rundown of the bands on the soundtrack are in the press release from SEGA, which follows after the fold.

Iron Man 2: The Video Game comes complete with a high-energy soundtrack which takes the excitement and action to a whole new level of cinematic intensity. Coming out on May 4, 2010, Iron Man 2: The Video Game features songs from some of heavy metal’s hottest acts including:

• MESHUGGAH:

“One of the ten most important hard and heavy bands” that’s how the prestigious Rolling Stone Magazine describes Swedish sonic extremists MESHUGGAH. It is impossible to talk about experimental or avantgarde metal without mentioning this truly groundbreaking act: MESHUGGAH mix ultra-complicated rhythmic patterns with massive riffs and aggressive growls, combining Death Metal, Mathcore, Thrash and Progressive Metal to create their unique style. “ObZen” is their newest offering and one thing is for sure: expect the unexpected. You could say that “ObZen” is some sort of a best of album with fresh, new songs – but that´s only half the truth. “ObZen” is once again a masterpiece of diversity and surprises.

• STEMM:

Rising above the sea of ‘flavor of the week’ metal that is over saturating the industry, Buffalo, NY based STEMM is the band that delivers the fresh breath of air the metal world hasn’t witnessed since the vocal pitch corrector was invented. Early on, STEMM found an ally in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) who took a liking to the band in the beginning stages of their musical career branding them as “The soundtrack to the UFC”. The UFC uses the song for all Pay-Per-View events as well as many other STEMM songs from the bands musical library which is also heard as background music for UFC / SPIKE TV programs “Ultimate Fighter” and “Unleashed”. Now, armed with their own national distribution deal which enabled the band to start their own label (CATCH 22 RECORDS) the release of their new album ‘Blood Scent’ has been unleashed to the world on their own terms. Power packed with crushing guitar riffs, a rock solid rhythm section and a vocal technique comparable to that of James Hetfield, Phil Anselmo and Corey Taylor all put together like some metal frankenstein monster, this new release from STEMM will surely have every metal head out there running to the store for a beer instead of the eyeliner!

• SOILWORK:

With seven years and six albums behind them, SOILWORK’s increasing success has evolved from their initial status of a diminutive, yet promising Swedish extreme melodic metal band to their present position as one of the most popular and audacious entities to have explored new musical territories. Meticulously developing swift progressions, SOILWORK establishes sounds without limits, outranking any competition and setting an untouchable musical standard. Living up to the best selling Natural Born Chaos and the highly successful Figure Number Five, SOILWORK instantly cracked the Billboard Heatseekers chart and were presented as One of The 25 Most Important Bands In Metal by Alternative Press magazine.

• NOVA:

The sound of NOVA is exactly as you would imagine from the name. Big, bright and powerful. It’s a heavy, anthemic, atmospheric and ever-shifting juggernaut that draws on the best of classic and contemporary hard rock. The band’s growing reputation as an amazing live experience in conjunction with the breakout success of their debut album “nepenthe” has garnered a dedicated following and mainstream buzz that continues to grow.

• HYRO DA HERO:

The Houston-born, Los Angeles-based rapper has a vision for music. Hyro’s vision involves real rhymes about real life, music with a message, buoyant, bombastic beats and daggers shot right between the eyes of every fake MC on the scene. Hyro isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. He’ll call your favorite rapper out in one track, and then he’ll shine some light on a major social problem in another. However, he’s also apt to get the club bouncing with a grit and gusto that’s classy and chock full of swagger. Hyro touched down in Los Angeles in November 2007, and he’s been silently plotting his hip hop infiltration The critics have also spoken. Alternative Press named Hyro Da Hero One of the 100 Bands You Need to Know in 2009.

• PIMP X:

It started as an experiment in March of 2000, in a small 1 bedroom apartment in New Jersey. 6 songs were written in 3 weeks, and a strong fascination with DIY music composition using computers, electronics and other gadgets gave the world “Boba Fett” in June of 2000. Boba fett was released FREE to the world and was put on over 100 music and mp3 sites on the WWW. 3 of the 15 songs started popping up on dance charts in Europe. Including the song “Maya” which was one of the albums highlights telling the story through music (no lyrics) of a love that never could be by using mellow beats and jazz piano with samples from the movie “City Of Angels”. Several albums later, Pimp X’s last studio release DOSED is scheduled for “sometime in 2010”.

Jackson, music from intense metal acts like Lamb of God, and an all-new story created by renowned comic book author Matt Fraction, Iron Man 2: The Video Game takes the series to the next level.
