Sega has announced that its European division has acquired British developer Two Point Studios, best known for their comical hospital simulation Two Point Hospital. Two Point has been taken under the Sega umbrella as part of the publisher’s Searchlight program, which aims to boost the status of talented-but-smaller game developers.

Two Point Studios was formed in 2016 by former Lionshead and Bullfrog developers Mark Webley, Gary Carr and Ben Hymers (hence the inherent ability to create a great management sim). In a press release, Webley spoke of the team’s excitement of having Sega help out with their future projects.

“It’s a landmark step for Two Point Studios and we’re thrilled to be joining the Sega family,” said Webley. “We’re looking forward to executing the next phase of our plans as we continue to evolve Two Point County. It’s a hugely exciting time to be a part of Two Point and we are here today thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of our small, but amazingly talented team here in Farnham and the incredible fans that have supported us throughout and guided our continued development of Two Point Hospital.

Sega Europe President and COO Gary Dale also spoke of the publisher’s eagerness to bring Two Point on board: “As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at Sega Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential.”

As for what comes next, Sega and Two Point announced that they have multiple projects currently underway, and that we should expect to hear about them within the coming months. In the meantime, Two Point Hospital is available now on PC via Steam.
