SDCC: SAW director bringing Castlevania to the big screen

While we’re not sure if we needed a Castlevania live-action film, this is an interesting twist — James Wan, best known for his work on the SAW franchise, will be directing the Paul W.S. Anderson produced film.

While it’s early on in the project, Wan tells Bloody-Disgusting that he’ll be working on the script with a writer, giving it his own twist.

“This will have my stamp on it, which Konami is very excited about,” he says.

If you’re concerned that Hollywood is ready to twist another of your videogame classics into some cringe-worthy flashy popcorn flick, you might want to give Wan the benefit of the doubt. It sounds like he just might “get it.” Speaking to Bloody-Disgusting, he talks of a “high stylized, fantasy, action film that focuses on the gothic storyline, and the cool anime-like characters.”

Oh, and it’ll be sexy. With a whip.

“For once, the human hero is as sexy and dangerous as the vampire villain,” he explains, “and his weapon of choice was what attracted me to the project in the first place — The Vampire Killer Whip.”
