Scribblenauts gets level sharing, still sounds terrific

Another chance to talk about Scribblenauts and lament the obscurity of 5th Cell? Why yes, I think I’ll take that. Stephen Tortilla of Kotarkew has shared with the world a little more information regarding 5th Cell’s latest and most ambitious DS title, giving Scribblenauts a little in common with LittleBigPlanet. While there’s no traditional multiplayer to speak of, users will be able to create and share their own levels.

According to the report, players will be able to create their own “obstacle course” to share with friends, taking pre-made terrain and then writing whatever they want to make objects appear. If you write a second object into the level, you can define the relationship between your two creations. Stephen gives the example of being able to create a bear and some honey, and making the bear fear the honey, rather than desire it. Object relationships can be picked from a simple pre-defined menu.

5th Cell are attempting to put every word into existence (barring the more “fun” words of our English language) inside the game, so players will have a huge amount of scope when it comes to creating their own little worlds.

This game sounds ridiculously ambitious, and it’s difficult to imagine a game where you can write and interact with absolutely anything your brain can think of, especially on the DS. Still, if there’s one team I’d trust with such a huge task on a handheld system, it’d be these guys. Best of luck to ’em, I say.
