Off-Road Velociraptor Safari was an Internet sensation. Partially because it was free-to-play, but primarily because it was a game in which you controlled a raptor who chased after other dinosaurs in a 4×4. A truly great concept if I’ve ever seen one.
Flashbang Studios had an HD, premium version of the game in development, but that’s no longer the case. Founder Matthew Wegner explains what went wrong in a blog post, which you all ought to read. In it, he describes how going after the high-def target limited “possibilities instead of expanding them.”
Since GDC, Flashbang had begun work on an all-new look for Off-Road Velociraptor Safari HD, as shown above. Unfortunately, the project has since been put on hold indefinitely, for a number of reasons.
Anyone who’s pre-ordered the game can get a refund, or if you’re feeling brave, you can hold onto your reservation in the unlikely event that Flashbang one day finishes the project. Goodnight, sweet prince.
