Sacred Citadel: Beat up genetically modified orcs

Some things are simply timeless. Like a well cut suit, Disney songs, or running across a 2D environment slaughtering everything in your path. Deep Silver’s new side scrolling brawler, Sacred Citadel, is looking to get a piece of that arcade nostalgia pie.

Three heroes — a shaman, ranger, and warrior — must join forces and fight off a bunch of super-orcs. I doubt it’s particularly important. What is important is that it looks pretty gorgeous, has a variety of deadly weapons, loads of combos and power ups, big boss battles, and a lot of flair. Players can also ride engines of destruction and mounts. Since riding lizards in Golden Axe is one of my fondest arcade memories, I can appreciate this.

I can only hope my current co-op binge will last until 2013, when the game is set to launch on Xbox Live, PSN, and PC.
