A document has surfaced which indicates that EVE Online developer CCP is at work on an MMO based in the World of Darkness setting. For those unaware, World of Darkness is a connected series of pen-and-paper role-playing games that breathed new life into the hobby with games such as Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Mage: The Awakening. This also had the unfortunate side effect of morons in black clothing and tons of make-up making asses of themselves in public.

The PDF in question, which outlines several of the company’s projects, states that converting the World of Darkness to an online, persistant world is their next major project. Of course, the document was produced in July of 2008 and CCP has been placing a greater emphasis on EVE Online lately, so it’s impossible to tell if this is still a priority.

It would be perfect for an MMO setting, however. The pen-and-paper games managed to do a decent job integrating complex and drastically different character types into an overall world for a long time before becoming bloated (resulting in a reboot of the series a few years ago). If the MMO version uses the same statistical system, we could have a pretty good game on our hands.

If you can put up with all the goths, that is.
