According a rumor yanked from the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, Gearbox may currently be working on Halo 4 as a launch title for Microsoft’s next console. While rumors and speculation are all well and good, Gearbox CEO did hint that they were working on a huge project.

“I’ve started a new project,” he wrote on Gearbox’s official forums back in February. “It’s big. It’s, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big. I’m directing it myself. I can’t mention it publicly yet. When you find out what this is, you’ll likely agree that I can’t oversell this one.”

Gearbox have a pretty decent background when it comes to first-person shooters, having on a number of Half-Life titles and porting Halo: Combat Evolved to the PC for Microsoft. They’ve been working on Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway for what seems like forever, and are currently developing Aliens: Colonial Marines for Sega.
