Rumortoid: Baldur’s Gate III in the works, BioWare won’t be involved

An unnamed developer and publisher Atari are allegedly in the process of bringing Baldur’s Gate III to fruition. This rumor arises from a source at CVG, who says that the original creator of the series BioWare, will not be involved in the process. It is also being reported that the game will not be available for “at least another year.”

The obvious developer to look at when speculating about this title is Obsidian, who spun a nifty expansion for NeverWinter Nights 2. When I had an opportunity to speak to a presenter for the game at a convention a few months back, I immediately asked if Obsidian were working on a Baldur’s Gate or Icewind Dale title in addition to the NWN 2 expansion. The presenter flatly denied it, so take that for what it’s worth.

As with most rumors, take this with a grain of salt. While it would be nice to see how the Forgotten Realms have been doing since we last ventured into Baldur’s Gate, there is little substantiation past our own wishes that support this rumor.
