RPG developer FuRyu to ‘temporarily halt’ mobile development, console work still a go

The studio that brought you Caligula Effect

FuRyu, depending on your penchant for Japanese games, have been operating low key since 2007, publishing several semi-known games like The Alliance Alive and Caligula Effect. For some time it’s been business as usual branching out into multiple forms of media, even multiple platforms in the world of gaming, but that’s changing by way of a statement from CEO Takashi Mishima.

Mishima explains it himself, further clarifying a statement that initially made it seem like they were getting out of games entirely, stating: “What we are describing is in regards to the smartphone games within our games business—while we have been releasing several titles each year, we temporarily suspended the development of new titles in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2019.”

He goes on: “For console games, we will continue to plan, develop, and sell games in the same way we have been during and after the fiscal year ended March 31, 2019. For smartphone games, we do not have any release plans for new titles during and after the fiscal year ended March 31, 2019, and will focus on maximizing the revenue of the titles that are currently available.”

While mobile development works out mighty fine for a lot of studios, there are some where it doesn’t. This seems to be one of those cases, but at the very least we don’t have another publisher exiting the game entirely this week.
