Monkey Island co-creator will be in Melbourne this July

Aussie adventure game fans are in for a treat this July as it’s been confirmed that famed game designer Ron Gilbert will be the opening “story time” keynote speaker at the first PAX Australia. The creator of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, and more recently The Cave, will be at the Melbourne event July 19-21, 2013.

A few regular PAX musical guests are confirmed for the Australian leg — The Protomen and MC Frontalot — along with the crew from Rooster Teeth as well as Tycho and Gabe, of course.

When PAX Australia was announced, I was worried that it wouldn’t attract many notable figures but Gilbert would be a big draw. I’d love to hear his keynote, especially if he talks about his time at LucasArts developing those early adventure game classics. I could’ve asked him when he sat next to me at PAX Prime last year, but he seemed really keen on just eating his hot dog.
