Two cute little people named Becca and Burton want to make a videogame called Robots Love Ice Cream. They took the summer off to work on it, but they need more than time to get the project done. They also need money — your money. The Robots Love Ice Cream team set a goal to raise $18,000 by July 31st to help fund the game, and as of this writing, they’re at over $10,000. Sure, they’re giving away some pretty cool bonuses to those who donate to the game, but it’s still pretty amazing that most of that money was put forward with nothing given in return but good faith.
Regardless of whether they make their goal or not, raising $10,000 for a game with nothing but a mission statement, a promotional video, and some production art is pretty amazing. It makes me wonder how much money more high profile developers, like Capcom and Nintendo, could raise for their projects if they put their proverbial tip jars and started asking for donations. Do you think Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype, Darkstalkers, and the Operation Rainfall games could get a second chance at life if we just threw money at the people holding them back?
