Rhythm-based Space Invaders? Get ready to Groove Coaster

Recommended Videos

Space Invaders Infinity Gene stands alongside Pac-Man Championship Edition DX and Galaga Legions DX as one of the best modern re-imaginings of a classic arcade title. All of those games share a certain subtle rhythm that sneaks into your brain.  It looks like the next game from Infinity Gene‘s creator may not be as subtle with the rhythm. It’s called Groove Coaster, and all we know is it’s promised to be “an exhilarating next-gen groove game”, and that Taito is promoting it with an image of a space invader wearing headphones.

I really hope that the game does for Space Invaders what Bit.Trip BEAT and FLUX did for Pong. The blending of simple, skills-based gameplay with a focus on rhythm rarely fails to enthrall. I’m guessing that, like Infinity Gene, the game will hit the iOS first, and come to PSN and XBLA sometime after. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more as it comes in.
