Metroidvania fans, or just those who dig an old school challenge, might want to take heed that Decemberborn Interactive’s old-school platform adventure Cathedral will come bouncing onto Nintendo Switch next week, sword in hand. Wannabe heroes will be able to pick up Cathedral from the eShop for around $15, with a handy 20% discount for those who pre-order.

Originally released on PC in 2019, Cathedral recalls the heady days of 8-bit platform adventures, as a brave knight awakens to find themselves trapped in a colorful world filled with dangers and hazards. Teaming up with a spirit guide known as “Soul,” it is up to you to guide our hero to the scattered elemental orbs that will unlock the secrets of their past, and hopefully provide a path back to their future.

Featuring a vast map of over 600 rooms, tons of enemies to slay and traps to negotiate, boss characters, logic puzzles, and a cast of friendly and not-so-friendly NPCs – all backed by a delightfully retro score – Cathedral looks like a great way for classic gaming fans to spend a weekend or two. You can check out a new trailer from publisher Elden Pixels below.
