Retro Game Master show comes to US on September 18

I had all but forgotten about Retro Game Master until I came across this bit of news. Known in Japan as Game Center CX, it’s the kind of programming that G4 ought to be airing instead of reruns of Cops and Cheaters. Comedian Shinya Arino takes on classic games with the help of his assistants, like having a team of Nintendo Game Play Counselors in the room next door. What’s not to love?

The show led to Retro Game Challenge for the DS. We never did get the Retro Game Challenge 2 localized, but an American release of the show itself sounds like a good trade-off. A few months ago, independent licensor Discotek Media announced that it had secured the rights to the 12 episodes that streamed on Kotaku. A few days ago, Discotek slapped a date of September 18 on the DVD release, and the episode count seems to have been bumped up to 14.

If the sales are solid, we could get more DVDs in the future. So, who’s up to spending a few bucks?
