It’s been almost one week since Resident Evil Requiem launched, and as players are finishing up their first, second, or third playthroughs, we are all looking forward to what’s next.

Beyond Resident Evil 10 (likely many years away) and several rumored remakes (Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 0 are rumored to be next up), RE9’s inevitable DLC may bring some full closure to this game’s events while also teasing whatever is to come.

Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village both had post-launch DLCs, and the Resident Evil 4 remake’s Separate Ways starring Ada Wong continued that trend, so it’s more than reasonable to expect the same from Requiem. And so the question begs: who will it feature, and who will cameo?

RE9’s main story wrapped up the story pretty well, but a post-credits scene teased some sort of upcoming confrontation from Umbrella’s forces and Chris Redfield’s Hound Wolf squad. Some reports are already floating around about the DLC featuring multiple scenarios, one starring Leon and another starring Alyssa Ashcroft before her untimely death.

There’s also some speculation about a small scene at the end of the game, which shows Leon putting what looks like a wedding ring back on his finger after the game’s events. That’s been enough to send many RE fans and “shippers” into a frenzy. Who could wifey be? Ada? Claire Redfield? Someone else entirely? The thirst for Leon x Ada is real, and it has been for about 30 years, so the ultimate fan-service would be to bring Ada back somehow and confirm that they ended up together.

Many fans are also hoping to see some long-awaited returns. Other than Ada, Jill Valentine and Claire are at the top of that list. Outside of the CGI movies, they haven’t been seen in the games in many years. But the wishlist for returns is long, and includes other previous playable characters like Rebecca Chambers, Sheva Alomar, Barry Burton, Carlos Oliveira, and more.

I think the closest thing we may ever get to a massive reunion of Resident Evil’s heroes likely happened already. The 2023 CGI film (canon to the games’ events) Resident Evil: Death Island included most of the heavy hitters: Leon, Chris Redfield, Jill, Claire, and even Rebecca.

My advice would be to temper expectations for the DLC. Franchise fans were already hoping for some sort of RE9 scenario where Leon, Ada, Jill, Chris, Claire, and everyone else showed up and saved the day in Raccoon City for old time’s sake, and ended up disappointed.

Whoever shows up in RE9’s DLC, I’ll be there on day one. And above all, I just hope it includes Mercenaries mode, because that time attack style with Requiem’s combat gameplay systems would be utterly addictive.
