The latest report to come out of research group JPR is called The PC Gaming Market. In it, there is some solid data that goes against the PC gaming is dying thing.
In this report, they say since 2005, more gaming PCs have been shipped than the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 combined. They came up with a total of 196 million gaming PCs shipped worldwide in this time frame, which goes against the almost 75 million consoles during that same time. The study makes the claim that “the PC gaming market is bigger, worth more money, growing faster, and has better technology than the console market.”
Edge does say that this study left out the totals for portables like the DS and PSP, which together have sold 125 million units worldwide. But that doesn’t change the fact that the PC market is worth over $20 billion right now. I’d bet that Asian PC gamers make up most of these numbers, though.
Still, with these numbers, I don’t think PC gaming is going anywhere.
