The single-player campaign and multiplayer of Company of Heroes 2 will be joined by a third mode, one that’s new for developer Relic Entertainment. A combination of single- and cooperative play, Theater of War is built with replayability in mind and should help transition players like me into a state of mind where we don’t get our asses kicked online.

“At launch,” the new mode will feature nine missions for each faction that are based on critical battles from 1941. Relic gave a few examples of mission types, like surviving against overwhelming enemy forces and AI battles with a commander that has a unique play style.

“We get a lot of requests from fans to showcase specific conflicts from the war and it isn’t always possible to fit these into the campaign,” said producer Greg Wilson. “Theater of War gives us the opportunity to deliver these new gameplay experiences to our fans.”
