Rejoice shoot-em-up fans: Under Defeat HD is set for PSN!

If I made a list of Japan-only shooters that are most deserving of a western release, G. Rev’s one-of-a-kind helicopter shooter Under Defeat would be at the top of the list. Well, maybe it’s time I cross it off.

Following their excellent Western release of Akai Katana, Rising Star Games will publish this touched-up version of a Dreamcast/arcade classic in the US via retail and PlayStation Network for $39.99 this fall. Unfortunately, there is no planned Xbox 360 release. At least you have something to brag about to your friends after the burn of Akai Katana and Sine Mora!

This HD re-release will features redone artwork, high resolution textures, and improved animation and lighting. There is also a new two-player mode that takes advantage of widescreen TVs. In addition, there are practice modes and the usual arcade mode. The real reason you’re going to buy this though is because you love shooters, especially when they are as fast, furious, and unique as Under Defeat.

I’m not singing this game’s praises blindly. I feel in love with it when I visited Tokyo last fall and was looking forward to spending more time with it next month — except now I can do it from my own home which is awesome.
