Razer’s lack of PS3 products due to CEO’s gaming habits

CEO ‘doesn’t spend time’ with his PS3

You may have noticed that Razer doesn’t produce any products for the PS3. It’s kind of a mystery, and some gamers contended that a deal was struck between Razer and Microsoft to bring peripherals exclusively to the 360 — but it seems like that’s not really the case.

The mystery was basically solved recently, as Razer’s CEO Min-Liang Tan took to Twitter and announced (after “dusting off” his PS3 for The Last of Us), “One of the big reasons why we don’t make PlayStation accessories is because I don’t really spend time with mine.” When confronted with the claim that he was being selfish, and not looking to a potential untapped market, he responded, “Why’s it selfish? I design stuff I actually want as a gamer rather than sell stuff to gamers for money.”

Now, Tan is free to run Razer the way he wants to run it of course, and it’s not like he’s required under any circumstances to make PS3 products. But at the same time, wouldn’t a little market research factor into the equation? Why ignore a potential goldmine just because you don’t prefer a certain console? With constant pestering and some potential testing we may see Razer move into the PS4 space, but as of right now, they’re staying exclusively with the PC and Xbox.
