Rare says it doesn’t need to return to old franchises

It seems that Rare isn’t so interested in its classic franchises that made it such a popular developer. In speaking with Develop, Studio head Mark Betteridge told them that Rare “would only go back to older franchises if we saw an opportunity to make the product in a different way that would do justice to [them].”

He followed up by claiming that there “isn’t a need” to reboot their classic franchises, saying that it would be nice to return to their big name games, but that doesn’t mean that they are going to.

Does this mean that Banjo and Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts did justice to one of the greatest 3D platformers ever? Or maybe that re-releasing Perfect Dark in HD was a “different way” to approach that game. This just seems to contradict half of Rare’s work for the past decade. Maybe it’s a brand new direction for the company, but as of now I’m not seeing it.
