Ranked battles are nearly unlocked in Splatoon

More players need to reach level 10

Before launch, Nintendo detailed the method in which ranked play (Splat Zones) was unlocked in Splatoon. It’s accessible only by players who have reached level 10, but beyond that, there’s an additional requirement that enough players have leveled up to unlock it.

It’s only been three days, and Nintendo notes that it’s nearly ready to debut. It’s a weird way to handle one of the only two modes in the game for sure, but there’s likely some technical reasoning involved, including the theory of player pools and stress-testing one mode at launch before another is unleashed.
