Punch-Out!! returns! First screens and video of new Wii sequel

Recommended Videos

Remember the recent rumor that Nintendo was going to announce a retro revival “everyone was waiting for” at its press conference this morning? Well, there are arguably several games that could describe this (nice job, Nintendo!), but I am assuming the mega company was referring to its reveal that Punch-Out!! is coming to the Wii.

Was “everyone” waiting for this? I’m not sure, but I do know I am currently one happy mo-fo that is jumping up and down with glee in front of his computer. Punch-Out!! is one of my favorite Nintendo franchises of all time and its inclusion on the Wii is awesome and, honestly, pretty inevitable.

As you can see by the above video and gallery screens, not much has changed: Little Mac is back and he will be fighting a variety of fighters in an incredibly refreshing, nostalgic art style. While I would sell my first born to find out the list of all the fighters, it seems weakling Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and extra massive King Hippo are the only ones confirmed (could this be a remake of the original?).

Enough chit-chat. What do you all think? Was this the retro revival you were hoping for? Do you like the updated look? How do you think the game will control (Wiimote/Balance Board combo?)? Which classic Punch-Out!! fighter would you love to see make a grand return?
