Sony’s miserable new PlayStation Portable, the PSPgo, has launched this past Sunday in Japan, a month after North America and Europe. The sales tally sees a launch that could be accurately described as … alright.

According to reports, the PSPgo shifted 28,275 units on day one, which could be described as a moderately encouraging number. However, the numbers are far below launch day sales for the DSi, which stood at 170,000 and even the PSP-3000, which shifted over 140,000 units.

This could be down to the fact that the system launched on Sunday, instead of Saturday as is traditional in Japan. However, such a significant gap between PSPgo sales and PSP-3000 sales would seem to indicate that the PSPgo is just as welcome in Japan as it is in the rest of the world — not very welcome at all.
