The newly revamped PSP Slim (or PSP-2000 for the model number-loving geeks) has just hit the 1 million units sold mark, and that’s just in Japan. What’s more impressive is that it has done so faster than the original PSP did.

The new PSP launched on September 20th, which puts the new system hitting the milestone two weeks faster than the original did back in 2004. Both look stellar when compared to the PS3, which took 8 months to sell 1 million units.

We don’t know if the strong sales are due to the new size and functionality, the new colors, or the recent influx of good PSP games; it’s probably is a combination of all of these factors. Either way, its great news for Sony.
