PS3 firmware 3.41 allegedly causing system crashes

Recommended Videos

PS3 firmware 3.41 was recently launched, and despite containing a potential patch that makes future updates easier, some users are complaining that they can’t update at all, with the new firmware reportedly causing system crashes.

Some users are being told to check their network settings, even though they are connected just fine and nothing’s changed on their network in the short space of time since the last firmware update. Those that have managed to install the update have received an error message stating that “no applicable data” can be retrieved.

Sony is claiming that it’s not the firmware per se, but the individual hard disc drives. Sony suggests updating the HDD first, then installing the new firmware with a thumb drive.

Of course, some users say they have managed to get the firmware running without problems, and are thus claiming that there isn’t an issue at all. Everybody knows that if your own particular console has been running fine, then that means all the consoles are perfect.

Remember when you’d just put games into your gaming console and then played them? Y’know, before companies like Sony arbitrarily issued mandatory firmware updates that caused gamers to go on wild goose chases to update their systems with useless shit that has no real benefit to them? Yeah, I miss those days.
