The good press for Sony just hasn’t stopped this week. The BBC has praised the PlayStation 3 for its iPlayer functionality, describing the response to the new feature as “amazing” and revealing that Sony’s Black Box o’ Blu-ray is now responsible for 10% of the player’s viewers.

“User response to our new iPlayer for PS3 has been amazing,” beams BBC Online Media Group controller Anthony Rose. “Although it’s less than a week since we launched, iPlayer on PS3 now accounts for a massive 10% of all iPlayer viewing, overtaking Mac (8.5%) to be our 2nd most popular platform for IP-delivered content.”

The iPlayer is a new addition to the PS3’s roster of abilities, allowing users to stream BBC TV and radio content via the XMB. The fact it’s overtaken the Mac is a huge coup for Sony, and proof that sometimes loading your game console up with non-game features can work out quite well. I may have to make use of it myself.
