Sega is loading its hype cannons with Project Needlemouse information as we speak, having officially kickstarted its marketing campaign today. The official Sega blog has revealed a list of potential main characters, but not everyone on the list will make it into the game. Sega will be reducing this rather horrifying list one name at a time, provided certain conditions are met.
Sega has challenged its community to a test of knowledge concerning old school Sonic games. It will be asking questions over the next several days, and if enough people answer them correctly, the names will be wiped. It’s a cheap traffic driver, but it’ll work, so who can blame ’em?
Of course, since this game seems marketed to retro fans, it’s a little strange that nearly all the characters listed (save for Mr. Needlemouse) are horrible mockeries introduced in Sonic’s unfortunate later years. Horrendous creations like Big the Cat, Shadow the Hedgehog and Chip the Annoying C*nt are all listed. This can’t be right, can it?
We think not. It looks more like Sega will be pulling a swerve, and that when this little stunt is over, only one name will be on the list — Sonic. Quite a smarmy way to announce that Sonic’s usual cast of annoying friends won’t make the cut, but once again — it’ll work, so can blame ’em?
