Activision Blizzard’s Q4 financial conference continues, and some Call of Duty details were released. First, a new FPS is shockingly coming in 2011. I know! They didn’t mention what studios were involved with it.
“Project Beachhead” was created to streamline all online content with in-game integration, including all kinds of community elements. Beachhead will include a newly formed studio which will focus on this new element as part of Activision Blizzard’s renewed focus on online digital content as a viable means for generating profit.
When asked, Activision said Beachhead will have a “lot of services” but they are not ready to talk about subscription costs at this point. They didn’t flat out deny it would be a free service either, but simply referred to an announcement some point in the future.
The First Strike DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops sold more than 1.4 million units in the first 24 hours, a 25% increase over the last Modern Warfare 2 map pack, and Activision considers DLC to have “more commercial potential than most standalone console games.”
First Strike DLC will be released on the PS3 later this quarter.
