Price cut not enough for Wii U, claims retailer

ShopTo reduces price, doesn’t see big enough boost

UK retailer ShopTo has claimed that, even after initiating its own price cut for the Wii U, it isn’t seeing the kind of sales it hopes for. The company spilled the beans to MCV recently.

The company decided to drop the price of the basic unit to see how well it would perform, but revealed the plan “has resulted in a smaller than desired increase in sales at this stage.” The system is currently on sale for  £189.95, as opposed to Nintendo’s £249.99 MSRP.

Other UK retailers are apparently fed up with Nintendo’s lack of communication, with stores wanting a price drop across the board but finding that the Wii U maker’s silence is “deafening.” According to one unnamed store, “They’ve got to do something otherwise it is GameCube all over again.”

The Wii U has struggled to find a foothold since it launched late last year, with Nintendo itself admitting it needs to do better with its promotion of the system. Whether a price drop will help remains to be seen, but it certainly worked wonders for the 3DS.
