Pour one out, Tekken X Street Fighter is no longer under development

Not a surprise, but still a bummer

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that Tekken X Street Fighter, the long-time-coming sister title to 2012’s Street Fighter X Tekken is no longer in active development. He stopped short of saying the game was cancelled. Instead, Harada cited the excitement over the soon to be released Tekken 7 and a desire not to split that community between two games, saying “a good window in which to release Tekken X Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently. So it’s on hold for the moment.”

As long ago as 2014, Harada has insisted Tekken X Street Fighter was “pretty far stage in its development” keeping the dream alive. From where I’m standing, saying the game is “on hold” right now might as well be “Tekken X Street Fighter has gone to live in a big farm up north with a bunch of other cross-over titles!” Too bad for fans who were excited to Hadoken in the third dimension.
