Pokefanatics are one thing, but ones that play to win, working toward that goal of going to Hawaii to be the true champion are another. This year’s championships include the new DS games, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, in the competition.
At each qualifier tourney, players from two different age divisions (born in 1998 or later, or 1997 and earlier) will be selected on a first come, first serve basis from the attendees. The top four players from each age division will be invited to to go the finals, set to go don in Kona, Hawaii on August 13th through 15th. Champs from Europe, Japan and the U.S. will go at it for the World Champion title in each division. The top finishers will be awarded international travel packages, trophies and Pokemon prizes.
At the official webpage for the championships you’ll find all you need to know about qualifier dates and times. The next date is May 15h, where a meet will go down in San Francisco.
I know that Destructoid’s readership (and staff!) has a surprising number of Pokemon players, but do you know anyone that has the stuff to take it to the championship level?
