Pokemon Go is holding a massive ‘Summer Tour’ event this year

Chicago, Germany, and ‘Asia’

Pokemon Go is still trucking, amid huge financial returns nearly three years after its initial launch. Anecdotally almost everyone you know may have quit; but remember that Go has a big worldwide following. The United States only made up roughly 33 percent of its revenue stream as per a study in late 2018.

Anyway, Go is alive and well and this summer it’s holding several events to get people walking around in the warm weather. It’s called “Summer Tour 2019” (of course) and will include a real-life Chicago festival from June 13 through June 16 and another in Dortmund Germany from July 4 through July 7. An “Asia” festival (likely in Japan as per Niantic’s history) will be announced at a later date.

Basically, this is a re-up of existing festivals, the first of which didn’t go so well. The Chicago one is in Grant Park and will feature “300 acres of walking space” on top of special activities. Interestingly enough you’ll be able to buy your ticket “later this month” from within the app.

As for Germany, they actually held a “Safari Zone” festival in the past but now it’s a full-on four-day event in Westfalenpark. Those tickets are available “later this spring.” Given the risk involved (if the game or cell service is down you’re basically out of luck) I probably wouldn’t pay to travel to any of these, but if they were in your backyard I’d definitely check them out.
