PlayStation Network effort raises $1.3 million for Japan

Wow! Sony’s effort to pull in donations via the PlayStation Network started about a week after the March 11 earthquake in Japan. Since then they’ve managed to pull in 109.6 million yen ($1.32 million) in donations and purchases from PlayStation 3 owners. Donating users in the 40 participating countries received a special XMB theme.

“While we continue to make every effort to help the recovery of the affected communities in the region, I would like to express our gratitude to every single PlayStation user across the world who made a contribution to the effort,” said Kazuo Hirai, president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment.

I like to think that gamers have big hearts. That definitely shows in cases like this.
