A game-breaking glitch involving Trophies on the PlayStation 3 will be receiving a patch. The problem (other than the glitch) is figuring out exactly when the fix will debut. Users have been making the error known to Sony since this fall.
According to a CVG report, the glitch appeared when users changed their account IDs or their passwords somewhere between firmware updates 2.50 and 2.53. It corrupts Trophy data, preventing synchronization to the profile. Some games don’t play nice with the problem and force the players to quit out of the title in an endless loop of error messages and restarts.
A Sony Europe representative recently told users on their official (but still European) message board that a “fix is on the way” but no timeframe has been set. In the meantime, Sony probably expects users to play Home — the virtual equivalent of the physical activity of chewing broken glass.
