PlayStation 3 price cut by Christmas? France seems to think so

Recommended Videos

The rumors about a PS3 price cut just won’t die, and now French newspaper Les Echos has added further fuel to the fire, according to AFP. In actuality, it’s pretty much being reported as fact that the PS3’s 40GB model is going to receive a €200 ($282) cut, while the 60GB SKU is going to slash €100 ($141) from its original price.

Sony is yet to confirm Les Echo‘s claims, but a spokesman has declared an announcement “imminent” with regards to the prices. AFP goes on to claim that Sony has made its intentions of a Euro price cut clear, but this is where I get skeptical. As far as I’m aware, Sony has never alluded to such sentiments.

Either way, a price cut would be a deciding factor in Sony’s fortunes in Europe this Christmas, I feel. As concerns about the Dualshock 3 and its inclusion in future PS3 packages surely mount, Sony is going to have to sweeten the honeypot to ensure more pleasing sales. Remember, the PlayStation 3’s success in Europe was pretty much in its first week. The rest of us are prudent and worried as to when we should buy to avoid getting screwed over.

Don’t worry, my European friends. The French will sort this all out for us.
