Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare microtransactions incoming

And that’s okay, actually

This week, PopCap will add microtransactions to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. We knew the day would come and, you know what? It’s not a big deal.

For those of you not playing this wacky third-person shooter (you’re missing out!), unlocks for characters and cosmetic items are earned through the purchase of card packs using in-game currency. The rate at which you earn coins is fair, albeit dependent on player skill. Now, people will have the choice to buy these coins to spend on booster packs. The fact that PopCap waited two months to roll out microtransactions — improving the coin rate along the way — is commendable.

There have already been two big content updates released for free and I suspect more DLC is on the way. Garden Warfare may be an EA-published game, but it sure doesn’t feel like it.
