Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare caught me off guard

Unexpected, but awesome

My biggest E3 surprise so far has been Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, a game I didn’t think would even exist much less look as compelling as it does. I mean, a third-person action game based on Plants vs. Zombies shouldn’t work; on paper, it sounds awful. But a moment into the live gameplay demo earlier today at the EA press conference and I was sold.

This uses the Frostbite 3 engine and supports four-player cooperative play as well as competitive modes for 24 players. Again, seeing is believing here. While Garden Warfare will be out first on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in spring 2014, according to PopCap, a PC release is also on the way once the “exclusively first” business is done with. Thank goodness for that!
