V.A.T.S, maul and repeat. Bethesda did a lot of things right with Fallout 3, but one noticeable dent in the game’s power armor was the shooting mechanic. We’d say it hovered somewhere between serviceable and poor, but Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford would place it in the more boring than Borderlands category.

In a conversation with Official Xbox Magazine, Pitchford said Borderlands was “less boring” than Fallout 3 when talking about Borderlands’ action focus and, obviously, offered up a bit of criticism for Fallout 3 in the process.

“I understand why we do those games [like Fallout 3] but I don’t know — do we want that,” Pitchford asked. “I think that game could have been much better if it didn’t have a single dialogue tree. Honestly. And if it was more action-orientated, and if the shooting was better,” he said.

Will Borderlands tickle those with a taste for post-apocalyptic shooters? Even if I could answer that, an embargo would prevent me from doing so. Still, the game does look pretty f’ing metal on the outside. I can’t wait until I get my hands on it. How about you?
