Phasmophobia console launch delayed to October due to “fire incident”

Just in time for the spooky season.

The paranormal horror game Phasmophobia originally launched on September 18, 2020, on PC where it enjoyed popularity among streamers. Kinetic Games has PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports in the works, but you’ll have to wait a little longer than expected before you can get your hands on them. The studio has announced that the game has been delayed, pushing its Early Access console launch from August to October, in the week leading up to Halloween.

As the studio explains on Twitter, the delay is the result of a “fire incident” in its office building, along with “unpredicted development issues.” With the extra time gained by the delay, the studio hopes to perfect and fine-tune the ports.

Phasmophobia lands just in time for Halloween

The delay isn’t too long, and in the meantime, PC players can enjoy the recently released Ascension update which brings several changes, including a new leveling system with “new rates of progression, new unlocks, and a prestige system,” along with several minor bug fixes.

PS5 owners will be happy to know that a PS VR2 version is also in the works, and crossplay will allow friends to play together regardless of what platform they’re on. The game has already demonstrated that it is capable of providing a terrifying VR experience thanks to its VR support on PC.

Phasmophobia‘s minor delay pushes it into an appropriately spooky time, which could end up being a positive for it. However, Phasmophobia will have to contend with several other headliners scheduled for October, including horror titles like Alan Wake 2 and Alone in the Dark.
