And all future games too
SimCity is broken. Players aren’t able to connect to the servers, and without that connection you virtually cannot do anything with the city building game. Fans are rightly outraged, taking to various social media outlets and forums, warning others to not purchase the game. Still, its unclear if DRM is the culprit of if its because the game is too much fun.
Fans have also taken to Change, and created a petition asking Electronic Arts to remove the always online DRM from SimCity and future games:
“When I, And millions of other people, buy a game that has a single-player experience. We expect it to work regardless of our connectivity to the internet, or quality of our connection. EA has made this impossible, so many people with an unstable connection will not even be able to play the game in the first place, let alone anyone who wants to play on the go/with no internet connection.”
There have been nearly 40,000 signatures as of this writing, and another 10,000 signatures are needed before hitting the target goal. Will this actually be enough for EA to listen to the issue of DRM and always online requirements? It’s doubtful, sadly. Everyone saw this coming thanks to the Diablo III launch, and yet history just repeated itself.
