Persona 2 PSP’s upgrades go way beyond a port

Recommended Videos

Folks were excited enough when Atlus announced that it would be porting Persona 2: Innocent Sin over to the PlayStation Portable. After all, Innocent Sin itself never made it across the pond back when it first came out for the PSOne, so the mere thought that it would get a second crack at it was good news. Further, since Atlus USA also brought the remake of Persona 1 to English-speaking lands, the chances could be even better.

Now that more details (and screenshots) of just what’s getting improved are out, things are looking way hot. For one, the interface is getting a big update to bring it more in line with the usability of the latter-day Persona titles. An optional memory install will be available to reduce load times, and the battle system will be tweaked to match the changes made in Eternal Punishment (the Persona 2 installment that DID make it over). People not fond of difficulty will even be able to change settings mid-game (a first for any Persona title).

Plus, everything’s getting a visual upgrade as well. The widescreen resolution should reveal more of the screen, minimaps and status indicators are being added to the main overlay, and even the color palette’s getting a refresh. Now you can even see that the character sprites have (gasp!) faces. Check out some comparison shots in the gallery, and more at Siliconera. So far the changes are on a scale somewhere between the “enhanced port” that was Persona 1 PSP and the complete remake that was Persona 3 Portable. Feels appropriate for a title between the two, don’t you think.

Anyway, hot stuff is hot. C’mon, Atlus USA. Announce this one already!
