Valve’s Portal 2 is one of our most anticipated games of 2011, so I made sure to check out the ten-minute demo that the company was showing off at PAX East. After seeing the demo, which included footage from the single-player campaign featuring J.K. Simmons as Aperture Science founder Cave Johnson, I spoke with the game’s Project Lead, Josh Weier, to hear more about Johnson’s significance in the story.

We also touched on a number of other topics: the foundation of the creative spirit that drives Portal, and the new tools at your disposal in Portal 2; the extent of Steamworks integration in the PlayStation 3 version of the game; and the reasoning behind the casting choices for Johnson and Stephen Merchant’s Wheatley (which I was overthinking, apparently).

Portal 2 will be out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac on April 19, 2011.
