PAX: A.N.N.E. is a retro open-world platformer

Find the pieces of your missing girlfriend

A.N.N.E. is a retro-inspired open-world platformer loaded with adorable charm and fun yet challenging gameplay. The hero is on a quest to find all of the missing pieces of his girlfriend and put her back together.

The sounds and visuals make it feel like your standing in an arcade while you play, and even though I didn’t grow up playing a lot of Nintendo games, I really appreciated the way it looked and played. It’s more than just trying to capture nostalgia — it’s an awesome game in its own right. It’s simple to learn and it grows in complexity as you play.

There are role-playing elements that will let players gain new abilities and stronger items over time. As the player gets these new items and abilities, they will have access to new areas of the game that need to be unlocked in a specific way.

Along with the usual jumping around with a character, there is also a spaceship that the player will get access to. This can be used to fly quickly around the world, move large objects that are blocking the way, and it’s a portable respawn point.

Attacks and abilities can be targeted in eight directions, and they can be locked in place so you can run and jump while shooting down. The ability in the demo was a shield that blocked enemy fire. I was able to drop that down and shoot enemies on the next platform while jumping around. It’s really fast-paced and hectic — in a good way.

A.N.N.E. is being developed by one person right now who is planning on doing a Kickstarter very soon. There are no official plans for a release date or platforms yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out more.
