Paul Robertson makes Gravity Falls even more awesome

Folks give the Disney Channel a hard time over its programming lineup, often with valid reason. Still, there are a few shows that prove some people still “get it.” I’ve been a big fan of Phineas and Ferb for its cleverness and damn catchy musical numbers, for instance. But that show is nearly five years old, and the formula is growing stale. Thankfully, there’s a new kid on the block: Gravity Falls.

If you haven’t seen this show yet, you are missing out on some high-quality animation with equally high-quality humor. I love how twisted and dark it can be while still remaining bubbly and lighthearted. Speaking of bubbly, co-star Mabel is probably the most adorable cartoon character ever. She’s the archetypal “weird kid,” but she’s so happy being herself, so free-spirited, that you can’t help but smile every time says or does anything. Also, it’s ironically refreshing that she and her brother Dipper have a loving relationship, whereas most other brother-sister combos on TV are gripped by sibling rivalry.

Anyway, I just learned that Paul Robertson, pixel artist extraordinaire behind shizz like Kings of Power 4 Billion %, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, and the upcoming Mercenary Kings, is contributing to this Friday’s episode of Gravity Falls. His character, Rumble McSkirmish, is a sprite-based fighting game character pulled straight out of a Street Fighter-esque arcade game who drops game references aplenty, as you can see from the clips above and after the break. I totally lost it when he started wrecking the one dude’s car!

Gravity Falls and Paul Robertson, guys. It’s soooooo good!
