In indie title Pathogenic, you play as a parasite to take down the human body, and there are plenty of options for you to pick from. When you start the game, your choices will be largely limited to one or two options. You’ll unlock more of them by completing certain conditions.
This guide will help you decide which parasites are better than the rest and which ones make it easy for you to take down the brain and reach the true ending of Pathogenic.

Complete Pathogenic Parasites tier list
Whenever you begin a new run in Pathogenic, you have to select a parasite. Every parasite has its own unique set of abilities that will largely shape how your run evolves. To separate them, I have chosen three different tiers:
- S tier: The best choices. You will find it pretty easy to reach the advanced organs.
- A tier: These options are close to S tier, but you will still have to spend some extra time and energy to reach the brain.
- B tier: Extremely niche options that will require a lot of extra effort for you to master.
S-tier
- Amoeba: The faster you level up in Pathogenic, the better your chances of success on your run. The Amoeba requires 20% less DNA to level up. Over time, this becomes quite significant, and it has proved to be a difference maker for me. Hence, an S-tier is a perfect slot for this unique parasite.
- Helminth: The Helminth is a defensive masterclass because it can block attacks. While it can’t strafe, the block attempts it makes are more than sufficient for you to gain success on your run. Mastering the movement pattern takes some practice, but it’s a balanced choice.
A-tier
- Bacterium: This is the first parasite you can access, and it offers a lot of balance. It does not feel overpowered, but it also lacks any significant weakness. Moreover, this is a perfect parasite to master for beginners since there are no advanced or complex mechanics to understand.
- Lil Collector: The Lil Collector is a great choice if you want to have plenty of upgrades, since it offers you a 20% shop discount. You will need to avoid the walls as much as possible, since it can get stuck. You can always use the dodge button to get unstuck, but mobility will be an issue with this parasite.
B-tier
- Fungal Spore: If you’re someone who loves to have many organelle slots on your parasite, this is an A tier. The organelle slots are compensated by the inability to rotate, which is a problem since it prevents you from avoiding incoming damage to a certain extent. Hence, B tier is a perfect place.
- Diatom: The only reason Diatom is in B tier is due to how it works. If you are playing with a buddy and have a lot of coordination, Diatom should be considered as S tier. It has a unique ability, since two players have to simultaneously control the parasite. You will also require the use of at least one controller, so there are certain difficulties when it comes to using the parasite. It does offer a lot of fun and the perfect co-op experience Pathogenic has to offer.
As of writing, I have yet to unlock the Nanobot, which remains the only parasite for my save. Once I have unlocked and played with it, I will give it a place on this tier list.
