Patch 1.3.2 in Diablo 4 made Uber Unique farming easier, sort of

This new system to guarantee Uber Unique items almost gets it right.

Patch 1.3.2 just dropped in Diablo 4 which gave us a lot of bug fixes and an adjustment to the Cursed Shrine events, but the meat and potatoes of this update lie with the newly implemented Uber Unique crafting system. Yeah, that’s right; we can now “target-farm” Uber Uniqes.

It sounds like a win on paper, essentially giving us dedicated grinders a guaranteed Uber Unique after a certain number of runs. It is, but there’s still a huge asterisk to this system introduced in 1.3.2.

To quickly run down how this system works: you can now salvage Uber Unique items to receive new materials called Resplendent Sparks. You’ll only receive one of these per Uber Unique dismantled. Once you have five Resplendent Sparks and 50,000,000 Gold, you visit an Alchemist at a Waypoint to transmute them into an Uber Unique of your choice.

So this is a pretty nifty pity system where we can also sink our millions of Gold so it’ll have some use. The problem isn’t the steep price of Gold at all. Endgame players are sitting pretty on hundreds of millions of the currency.

The problem is that Uber Uniques are still extremely rare. Drop rates for these items have reportedly been increased everywhere except against Uber Duriel. So far, I have been running Tier 70+ Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, Legion Events, and World Bosses with no Uber Uniques for hours. I’ve gotten a handful of Legendary Uniques, but those don’t count toward this new system.

Diablo 4 players have taken to the game’s subreddit to air out their grievances regarding this new feature. It almost feels like there is no difference or it seems pointless to try doing this. You might as well just keep farming Duriel or going into forced group runs as that still has higher Uber Unique drop rates.

The only issue with this now lies in another problem that solo players face. This crafting system seems like the pity system we needed so we don’t have to use LFG tools to find groups and go through the hassle of communicating with randoms.

Farming the materials needed to summon Duriel is such a drag. It’s a lot of work just to have a small chance to get an item that we want. Even then, in the lucky event that we do get an Uber Unique, we have to go through all the steps again.

It would feel more worthwhile if there was a system that guaranteed an Uber Unique drop after a certain number of runs so that there is some kind of end to our long grind. It’s called “target farming” in the patch notes, but it all just feels like nothing’s changed.
